A Google India survey said that 7 out of 10 of buyers know the exact brand and model they want to buy with the help of online research before entering the store. Annkur Agarwal and team knew this for a while, so we built PriceBaba! Over 90% of 200+ million Internet users in India make their purchases offline, PriceBaba gives them intelligence to shop better. It brings data from the real world to help you research products, prices & availability in your local area.

Pricebaba_MindcronPriceBaba is a product research platform for the Indian market. It helps connect local retailers to consumers on the web. At the same time it servers the default buying behaviour of the Indian consumer i.e. Research Online, but Buy Offline.

PriceBaba is currently available in Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon with over 1000 retailers. The focus currently is mobile phones.

Revenue model – The team is working towards giving retailers business in the form of genuine leads and get them on a paid subscription model.

Uniqueness – PriceBaba’s unique proposition is its online-to-offline connect where it has tied up with over 1000 retailers in multiple cities across India. Very few competitors have expanded offline at this scale.

Challenges – Increasing the scale to cover the whole of India faster. Since PriceBaba requires the hard operational work of going to each and every store not just once, but on a regular basis, this is the biggest challenge they face right now.

Achievements – Reaching 2 million users in under two years by growing at breakneck speeds. Getting great feedback from retailers who love the platform as a gateway for them to be on the Internet.

Future Goal – To be the portal of choice for offline commerce beyond categories of just consumer technology.

How different is – PriceBaba differentiates itself from typical directory services by offering in-depth detailing of the product, helpful tools like choice engine or a product alert tool that lets people know via SMS or email when there’s a price drop. We also have incorporated a Price Graph that provides historical data for the user to analyze and make a better decision.

FoundersAnnkur Agarwal started working in 2002 as a student who at the age of 15 decided to sell stuff online to make some money. Pretty soon things started to gain momentum and he ended up doing a few things before he graduated in 2007. This includes online retail, offline retail, a small stint doing events. Towards the end of college he started OnlyGizmos as an online shopping portal, which today turns out to be a technology blog.

Across all the things he did from retail to blogging, the only thing that remains common is his love for technology. Though he has no formal education in technology, he successfully manages a team of unique individuals to make PriceBaba a world-class product.

Funding status – 2 Rounds of Funding, totalling $150,000, with a big chunk coming from 500 Startups.
