Quit Facebook Day

There are plenty of buzz and tweet on 31st May 2010 about the idol of social networking site. More than 32k people had said goodbye to facebook on the day of “Quit facebook Day”, organized by two developers Matthew Milan and Joseph Dee.

But why? What happened to No. 1 Social Networking Site and 500 million active FB lovers?

Facebook has been recently facing data privacy issues. It also faced severe criticism for this leading many users to come out of the social networking site. Facebook’s privacy policy has 50 different settings, 170 different options and contains almost 6,000 words. The users are of opinion to switch to other alternative social networking sites like Orkut, or Twitter.

Besides, Facebook’s privacy controls are said to be highly complicated with loads of options in it to secure the data and it has deliberately made confusing. It’s a tedious process to lock the information.

But, how to trust on online services?

Can we hand over our personal contact information, our family and friends, our intimate secretes of life by simply trusting on the online services. . People are willing to do this only if they trust Facebook to protect that information. Facebook is likely to change the privacy settings. In that case facebook will not be going to lose their own reputation by mismanaging the changes in privacy control. <>?

Somehow, I like google.Google is simple, manage to control privacy control as well as influence the user. Web technologies are really grown up very high, we are in the world of real time web, and using cloud based computing. Our privacy should be managed and protected before exploring the information to world.

Do you have any reason to say good bye to facebook ????

    Yes.. I have few reasons.
    1) Its time killing site. On an average every person spends 8 minutes per day on facebook.
2)FB is not personalized..If I do post something on someone’s wall.. My big brother can easily know what I am doing.
    3)Album is still not personalized.
